Lots of articles and blogs have been written on the subject of creativity. We all want to know how to tap into that precious creative power that hides somewhere in the few cubic centimeters of gray matter between our ears. It’s easy to think that successful writers are just more creative than the rest of us and that they start writing after a great idea pops into their head. But my experience is just the opposite. For me, the creativity comes after I start writing, not before. I have to take that leap of faith and force myself to sit down to my keyboard, even if I don’t think I have anything to offer. And then, as my fingers begin to move, ideas start to form. The very act of writing gets things going.
So, here’s some advice for aspiring writers. Don’t wait for ideas to come to you. Go out and find them as you write.
