I’ve always been a daydreamer asking the what if questions. What if I could travel in time? What if I could predict the stock market? What if I was rich? What if I had cosmic power? What if there were no evil? What if I could read minds? What if I could jump to any star in the sky. (That’s easy: I’d be vaporized in a nanosecond.) Fiction allows us to imagine answers to these questions. And as we imagine the answers, we’re not just daydreaming and wasting our time. We’re learning real truth about ourselves, about our place in the world, about who we are. Answers to the Big Questions. For me, that is the great strength of fiction and the fun of being a fiction writer.
